Nikon D700 Review (Dom Bower) ((and comparison with the Nikon D300)) (part 1)
This is the first part of a multi video indepth review of the Nikon full frame Digital slr camera the D700.
In this part we compare the nikon D700 and the D300 for its shape and size, then also look at the effect on image from going from dx cropped sensor to the full frame sensor.
then we look at the effect of depth of field.

The DX lens on the …
The DX lens on the FX body scales to a lower resolution, because otherwise you’d have a circle in your picture. it crops the image so that it would appear like it was on a DX body.

d90 and d300 is …
d90 and d300 is more or less the same. (same sensor/pixels) but the d300 has more customizable functions, better built and has faster continuous shooting.
For Nikon I would choose D40, D90 then D700/D3. The rest I wouldn’t bother with imo.

Do it Dom, the D700 rocks. Truly. I don’t regret changing up from the D300 for a second. It gave me a good excuse to ditch the less than perfect 18-200 for the 70-200 f2.8. The difference is remarkable.

thanks. the 5dmark2 is an awesome camera and its iso ability is imense! from images i have seen compared to the d700 it compared well against but its images were twice as dark… indeed some reviews are contradictory. i will do my best to get a good idea of the differences for you.

it would but you would only get half the frame number of pixels, ie if it is a 12mp fx sensor and you put on a dx lens you will get a 6mp image. so you can use it fine enough.

One more thing I don’t know if you know but how do canon 5d mk II and nikon d700 compare in low light? I’ve read bunch of reviews but they contradict each other and I would like your opinion and by the way great job on your videos!

Couldn’t come at a better time i’m thinking of getting a d700 but I’ve heard some reviews comparing d300 and d700 saying that if you compare d300 and d700 images side by side you won’t notice any difference is that true? Probably at lower iso right but I hope not at higher iso?

Love the new camera Dom. Very impressive piece of machine there. Help me out with something though….I’m a long way from being able to afford a full frame DSLR like the d700 but I thought I heard that a DX format lens like the Nikon 18-200mm wouldn’t work on a full frame DSLR.

well put me at first refusal …….looking at the d300 and d90 …but leaning towards the 300,got the nikon 17-55mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 as well as a couple of others and people are saying go for the d300….to get the best out of the lens….

DOF actually does …
DOF actually does change on FF, but not with the same lens. the longer the lens, the more DOF you can get and b/c the 50mm on the D300 becomes a 75mm f/2 (bokeh wise), it seems the same. However, if you put a 35mm f/2 on the D300 (about 50mm) and a 50mm f/2 on the D700, the bokeh of the D300 will appear as a 50mm f/2.8 on the D700.
